The Story

Some prisons
have no bars.

Keegan Priano's prison sentence began long before he was behind bars.

When one devastating mistake fractured his family, the punishment wasn't just time—it was abandonment. His wife left. His son won't speak to him.

He lost everything except for his teenage daughter, Candice. She's the only person who believes her father can be more than the worst thing he has done.

Alone, she begins a quiet quest to right his wrongs—risking her own heart in the process.

My Own Prison is a powerful father–daughter story about second chances and redemption. It is a haunting of love that lingers, pain that echoes, and the invisible chains we wear by choice.

Because you don't have to be behind bars to be imprisoned. Sometimes, we stay in the places that hurt us, out of fear, guilt, or comfort in the familiar.

But freedom is waiting because often the key to freedom is not forgiveness from others, but from ourselves.

As long as the wick remains, a candle can rekindle a flame.

All it takes is one person to believe.

The Author

Neil K. Warner

commonly known as “the Zuke”

Neil Warner obtained notoriety as a popular, award-winning sports writer who spent 27 years writing for newspapers and magazines.

Previous to My Own Prison, he published two novels (Danny’s Corner and Soul Survivor) and two non-fiction books (Off Court and Under the Green Banners). He grew up in Madison, Wisconsin and is still true blue to the Brew Crew.

Neil adopted the initial “K” in his byline as a way to honor his father Keith, who passed away in 1996. He once thought that being a success was determined by how many books someone has sold, but now judges success based on how much time he spends with his three children — Aaron, McKinsey and Sammy — and his four grandchildren (Chloe, Nora, Tate and Addy Rose Jeannie).

Neil lives with his wife Charmel in Nevada. When he’s not writing, he can most likely be found on the pitcher’s mound, at a rock concert, or looking for reptiles in the desert.
